I purchased this after first purchasing a unit that looked identical for less than 1/2 the cost. That first one didn't work, so I went ahead and bought this one. Upon receipt I was concerned -- the box was plain white, but the same type and size as the cheaper unit. The box was labelled with IR1000 just like the cheaper unit. Even inside the unit was packaged identically -- same internal boxes labelled with black lettering. The only discernible difference was the IR receiver was hardwired to the block on the Smarthome version while it was detachable on the cheaper one. I assumed they were the same and that this one wouldn't work either, however I went ahead and tried it out anyway -- and as promised, this version was indeed compatible with our Panasonic 55" plasma display. So if you have a plasma display, don't waste your time on the cheaper version (not advertised as "plasma compatible"). It may look the same, but there's clearly something different internally.

Definitely plasma and LCD proof. I love this so much better than the RF options. The RF options suck. Their slow, you have to program them and re-program when you get new devices. I have all my stuff in a cabinet and had an RF remote that works with it's RF receiver that then send IR signals to the devices. It has serious lag time that is annoying. This little gadget solved all that mess. I can use my directv remote to run everything now. So much nicer and I don't need to spend a bunch of money on a fancy remote. Works with all my old remotes!

I'm going to get more of these for my other rooms and my theater.

Works as exactly as advertised. Easy and fast to hook up. I was having trouble with reliability with my Logitech Harmony remote and this unit made a big improvement - having a sensor and wired flashers. I do have 1 idea to make it better, make the cable longer for the sensor. My equipment is remote from the screen so I need a long extension or to 'bounce' the IR off the screen.
